Description

Once again, in my home-away-from-home area of Plumas County, CA., I chanced upon this scene in the old settlement of Beckwourth one chilly but sunny winter day. The wood of the old buildings and fences took on new color when wet, as did the bark of the cottonwood trees, giving more contrast to the scene. The snow had been beginning to melt in the warmth of the day and had dropped by the large trees in plops you can see in the foreground of the painting, while some still clung to the branches. The willow plants in the distance provided the naturally occurring complementary color of orange to the wonderful blue shadows. Portraying the mood, colors and textures of this scene as I painted it were primary goals for me. Surprisingly, I often really relax when I am working on some of the detailed areas of a painting, and this happened in the area of the branches of the tree in the middle ground where you see that I have painted every branch and twig that was on that tree! Where painting the snow had simplicity, the branches had complexity...a nice juxtaposition in the painting's composition to me! This painting has won several awards in local and National Shows.

The Original of this award-winning painting has been beautifully framed with an elegant custom brown frame and two mats, all included in the purchase price of $700.
